Cole Schleb of Midland becomes All American going 7-1

This past weekend both NEMWA (North Eastern Michigan Wrestling Association) and MMWA (Mid-Michigan Wrestling Association) sent teams to the USA Wrestling Middle School National Duals in Dansville, IL.  This is the first time in many years that Michigan sent team to this very competitive event.

As a newer entry, neither Michigan team was placed in a favorable entry pool.  MMWA faced fourth place Wisconsin and eventual champions, Oregon Gold back to back.  NEMWA was paired with Third place Kentucky and a very solid team from Illinois.

Sunday, both teams dropped to the consolation pools earning wins and success.

Our teams had a healthy balance of veterans and wrestlers newer to national level of competition.  It was fun to watch the growth of these newer wrestlers.  One of our greatest stories was from Hunter Coxon from Ramchargers.  A solid wrestler, Hunter has never competed outside of Michigan. After some really tough losses, Hunter became more aggressive, and slowly adapted to the grind of this event.  The payoff was his final match against the state champion from Nebraska. Down 7-1 in the third, Hunter threw his opponent to his back, pinning him with seconds left to seal a victory and the pool championship for team MMWA!

Another exciting moment came to Cole Schleb of Midland.  Cole went 7-1 on the weekend earning All American honors and a team MVP award chosen by the coaches and his team mates.

We look forward to attending this event next year, again filling our teams with those wrestlers who regularly participate in MMWA and NEMWA events.
