This event serves as the only US qualifying event for the Under 23 World Championships early next year. A new format for International Wrestling.
Coach Robert Hermann has been the head of the program since 2010 after serving as Navy’s head wrestling coach since 1983. “The future is bright in our room. We’re looking for the best wresters in the country.”
Of the 39 competitors that represented Northern Michigan University at the U23, 14 placed in the top four with (4) wrestlers earning the chance to represent the United States at the World Championships in Greco Roman.
“We have one main goal for our wrestlers, to help Junior and Senior competitors make World and Olympic teams while earning placements and championships.” Said Coach Hermann.
“While we have many great competitors dedicated athletes, Dalton Roberts from Fowlerville, MI has been a leader on and off the mat representing our program with a work ethic that defines our program and proves that sacrifice pays off. We fully expect him to win Gold at the U-23 Worlds.”
Barrett Stanghill is another example of how hard works pays off. “Barrett has been in our room for three years, most recently working our non stop for 5 weeks to earn a spot on the U23 World Team.”
